Covid Spring Booster Clinics
We will be holding a final covid spring booster vaccination clinic on Tuesday 31st May at Ampleforth Surgery. The spring booster is only available to patients aged 75 or over, or patients with a weakened immune system.
If you are in this group and received your last dose of the vaccine on or before 1st March 2022, please call the surgery on 01439 788215 and choose option 4 to book an appointment.
If you are not able to attend on this date please contact the National Booking Service online here or by calling 119 to arrange an appointment elsewhere.
If you are aged 70-79 you are eligible for a shingles vaccination if you have not already received one, and there is now a non-live vaccine available for patients who were previously not able to receive the live vaccine. We will be inviting eligible patients over the next few months to book an appointment, but if you are eligible and would like the vaccine now then please contact the surgery to book an appointment. Advance notice of surgery closure
Ampleforth & Hovingham surgeries will be closed on 2 & 3 June for the Platinum Jubilee, and will re-open at 8.30am on Monday 6 June. Please make sure you reorder and collect your prescriptions in plenty of time. For urgent medical care during that time, please call 111.

March is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
Symptoms include feeling bloated, a swollen, uncomfortable, or painful tummy, feeling full quickly, loss of appetite, weight-loss, needing to pee more often/urgently. These symptoms can be caused by lots of things, so ovarian cancer is can be hard to diagnose, but it's really important to be seen by a GP if you've these symptoms, they are unusual for you, and if they continue or get worse.

Wearing of masks in GP surgeries/hospitals
Although some restrictions have been eased in the 'living with covid' plan, all patients, staff, and visitors are still required to wear masks (unless exempt) when attending the GP surgery, or when attending or visiting any health-care settings, including hospitals and care homes. Unless you are exempt, you must still wear a mask before coming into either of our surgeries.

International Epilepsy Day (14 February 2022)
This year International Epilepsy day falls on 14th February, when more than 130 countries join together to raise awareness of epilepsy and how it affects the daily lives of sufferers. An estimated 50 million people are living with epilepsy around the world.
Recording Covid Vaccines Received Outside England
If you received any or all of your Covid vaccines outside of England (this includes Scotland, N. Ireland, and Wales, as well as overseas), and they are recognised in this country, you can now book a face-to-face appointment at some vaccination centres to have this recorded officially. Please phone 119 to book.

Covid-19 Vaccination Status
Proof of your vaccination status will be available on the NHS App, and you will not need access to your Detailed Coded Record in order to view your vaccinations on the NHS App after this date. Please note that we are unable to issue vaccination status certificates at the practice.
The NHS App can be downloaded from https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/nhs-app/id1388411277 for iPhone or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nhs.online.nhsonline for android. Alternatively, you can call the NHS helpline on 119 from 17th May and ask for a letter to be posted to you. This must be at least 5 days after you’ve completed your course of the vaccine, and the letter may to take up to 5 days to reach you. Ampleforth Surgery has ramp access from the car park at the front of the surgery. Hovingham Surgery offers parking right outside the door on a flat surface which you may find easier.
